Work has started to build 18 affordable homes for rent on a Brownfield site in Risca.

This photo taken by a drone shows the foundations of the building that is being built at the location of the former petrol station on Newport Road.

The new homes comprise 16 one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments in a three-storey building together with dedicated on-site parking, cycle storage and amenity space. They are being built by Castell Group for Linc Cymru, a registered social landlord based in Cardiff, with funding support from the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant programme.

Jo Yellen, project manager with Linc Cymru, said: “We are working in partnership with Our contractor, Castell Group, to provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes that will provide much-needed accommodation in a sustainable location.

“As with all our developments, we will bring extra community benefits to the area. On this site, the plan is to recruit two apprentices to each get 12 months of learning on the job while attending college. These opportunities give people the chance to get into the construction industry and a lifelong career.”

Dorian Payne, managing director of Castell Group said: “We are proud to contribute to the creation of 18 affordable homes in Risca. Through collaboration with Linc Cymru and our commitment to building sustainable, energy-efficient residences, we aim to positively impact the community while providing valuable opportunities for apprentices in the construction industry."
