Sunnyside Wellness Village: A Positive Start to 2025 in the Community

Developments
As construction progresses at Sunnyside Wellness Village in 2025, the development is already delivering valuable benefits for the Bridgend community – made possible through the strong partnership between Linc Cymru and Wynne Construction.

Located in the heart of Bridgend, Sunnyside Health and Wellness Village is creating a vibrant community focused on health and wellbeing, with high-quality homes and integrated healthcare facilities. But beyond the buildings, this project is already delivering meaningful opportunities for people in the local area – through education, training, and employment support.

Supporting Local Schools

Linc and Wynne Construction are working with local schools to leave a positive legacy beyond the site boundary. At Penybont Primary School, a new partnership with Greenspace SOS is regenerating an outdoor area to create a vibrant classroom where pupils can learn and connect with nature. With funding secured through the development, this project is helping to improve the school environment and support outdoor learning.

Inspiring Futures in Construction

The early part of the year has seen a strong focus on careers and employability, particularly for young people considering a future in the construction industry.

Wynne Construction has already engaged over 400 pupils through careers events linked to the development. Most recently, the team supported Careers Wales by delivering a full day of mock interviews for Year 11 students at Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd. Thirteen pupils took part, gaining practical experience and valuable feedback. Careers Wales praised the session for giving students a realistic feel for interviews and helping them reflect on their skills and confidence.

Wynne has also worked closely with employability groups, engaging 148 individuals exploring careers in construction. A recent session for Inspire 2 Work Plus – a programme supporting unemployed 16–24-year-olds – saw nine participants attend a 1.5-hour workshop. Follow-up support included CV referrals to contractors and the offer of work placements.

Connecting Communities with Opportunities

At the Porthcawl Jobs Fair, Wynne Construction joined Employability Bridgend to offer advice and guidance to local jobseekers. The event attracted over 300 attendees, and the team held one-to-one discussions with 34 individuals, many of whom have since submitted CVs or applied for placements with subcontractors. Work experience is now being progressed for four of those individuals.

Apprenticeships and Onsite Training

As site activity continues to ramp up, so do the training and apprenticeship opportunities. To date, 10 apprentices have been supported across the supply chain, alongside four work experience placements.

The team is also working with Itec and the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme to offer 16–19-year-olds practical insights into construction careers, with more opportunities expected as the project progresses.

Building More Than Just Homes

Sunnyside Wellness Village is more than a development – it’s a catalyst for community growth. Thanks to the partnership between Linc Cymru and Wynne Construction, the project is delivering real value for people in Bridgend, opening doors for future careers and strengthening local connections. And with plenty more activity planned for 2025, this is just the beginning.
