Planning Approval Granted for Regeneration Proposal of Constables Close, Newport

Developments
LINC CYMRU (Linc), a housing and care provider, first shared their proposals with local residents in April 2019.

The plans, which have now been approved by Newport City Council, are part of a wider regeneration project in the Pill area and have been designed to increase natural surveillance and invite more pedestrian footfall, ultimately aiming to create a safer environment for local residents.

Andrew Beale, Project Manager Linc, said:

“We are pleased to share that our proposals for Constables Close have been approved and are eager to move onto the next phase of this project.

“Since the proposals were first revealed, Linc has been working closely with local councillors, residents, and community groups to ensure our plans are fit for the future.

“At Linc, our purpose is ‘creating the right environment for people to flourish’ and we hope these plans for Pill will support the wellbeing of local residents and create a great place to live.

“We will continue to communicate with residents throughout the next phase of this project and are looking forward to seeing these plans come to life.”

The planning application was originally submitted in February 2020 and the proposed development was then revised following comments from consultees, including community members.

A flythrough video reveals how the design creates more open spaces to improve accessibility, along with adding courtyard parking and landscaping.

The plans see the demolition of several properties and the widening of a number of rear gardens, as well as the conversion of some houses to flats.

The addition of more overlooked areas and green spaces, seeks to create a more appealing environment in which to live.
